Seasonal Salmon Runs

From the first springers to the autumn back-end, each season on the Moy brings its own character and opportunity.

01

Spring

The highly anticipated Spring run begins early, steadily building to a peak in May. Catching these prized, hard-fighting ‘Springers’ straight off the tide is the ultimate angling reward. Early season tactics favour spinning and bait, though a well-presented sunk fly is highly effective in the right conditions.

02

Summer

As late May transitions into June, the famous River Moy grilse run begins. Given favourable water levels, June, July, and August offer some of the most prolific salmon fishing in Europe. Fly fishing truly excels on our waters in summer, while spinning remains incredibly productive during summer spates.

03

Autumn

By August and September, our pools hold excellent numbers of resident fish, continually supplemented by fresh runs from the estuary. A good flood after a dry spell triggers explosive late-season action. This back-end fishing also brings the chance of connecting with much larger summer salmon.
